Not I, but a coworker. Her take matched yours, and added the bit about a nice beach as per doc.

So I think you're as well-prepped as you can be. Jump.

I haven't "been".
If you think my post was "overcompensatingly sanctimonious" then what would you have preferred I said? You were asking about one of the more expensive/exclusive vacation destinations in the world, not Indianola Mississippi.
I stated my opinion and what I feel some others who have been there just might tell you.
I figured you may not have considered hiring a driver was a decent option instead of renting a car.
In other words, renting a car is NOT a "must" - as you stated it was.
If someone wants to pack alcohol to save them self a couple hundred (if that) bucks on a multi thousand dollar vacation - fantastic. That enables them to do something else with their money - or keep it in the bank. I'll spare you anymore commentary regarding my feelings on that.
Obviously you're going to do whatever you chose in terms of packing alcohol and renting a car but you're the guy who brought those things up while looking for advice from others. I responded.
Shit happens.

I usually ignore but sometimes I just respond just to see how many paragraphs could come from it.

I haven't been. Every time we've looked at it, the price point has scared us off.

I have been to Turks and Caicos but it was a scuba diving trip. When we landed at the airport we got transferred to the dive boat. We spent a week on the dive boat diving different dive sites around Turks and Caicos. We had a great time although I flooded my underwater housing and ruined my underwater camera.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

If it could have come out my ears and eyeballs, it would have.

But blessedly it truly WAS a 24-hour thing. I woke up Friday right as rain.

Never had anything like it - I was tied to the toilet for a day, and then nothing.

Sounds like food poisoning. Or at least that's how it went for me when I had food poisoning. Not fun. But thankfully, fairly short.
