That is a damn solid lineup. Harrison Barnes probably deserves to be thrown in there too.

Could name a few guys to argue against Phil Jackson being the best college player from ND, but that's by far the most recognizable name, so might as well go with it lol.

I thought the same, talent no question... but hes at the bottom as far as collegiate accolades.

I also immediately thought Barnes and had to look it up.

He may have been Iowa's most sought after recruit, though.

Imagine you being a 5'10 Iowa guard and you have Ames High School on the schedule, you show up for tip and you are directly across Doug McBuckets and Harrison Barnes.

Good luck.

McBuckets wasn't born in Iowa. FWIW. Nor was Hoiberg. By "default" it should go to a KU guy. ;)

Iowa born guys that I might add to the list are Kenny Fields, Jon Koncak, and NO - not Patrick O'Bryant.
I will never for the life of me understand how a KU team with Ju Wright, Shaka Kaun, BRush, Super Mario, Heart and Soul Robinson, DJax, and some other quality players lost to Bradley in 2006.
Other than Self may have coached his worst game as a college coach that day.

The list and article mention nothing about birthplaces.

Hometown = High School in the article and typically when used in sports. Early life for the rest of us.

I agree with you on the hometown =.
Thing is all of us could point out that the article states - "Who's the best college basketball player from Arizona? Nevada? What about Montana? Let's explore the best players whose hometowns are in each state".
Key words being "FROM", "HOMETOWN", and "ARE".
It could get complicated if we were talking about someone such as Kevin Garnett.

I could say I am "from" Chicago or Glencoe even though I was born in a hospital in Chicago and lived in Skokie until I was 3.
My current "hometown" is Chicago but "growing up" it was Glencoe, even though I also lived in Skokie for 3 years.
"Are" to me is current tense. Therefore, in the article it would make sense that it would have been their "hometown" states the day before they left for college.

When I pointed out McBuckets and Hoiberg weren't born in Iowa I probably did it because TDub and Cascadia were having their discussion in regards to Jordan.

Gary Thompson was born and raised in rural Iowa and was an All-American at Iowa State.
