Re: RIP Max
Fortunate enough to get that man’s autograph.
Re: RIP Max
Still remember listening to him as a kid.
95 years old.
What a career, will live in the rafters forever.

Re: RIP Max
An absolute legend. Listened to many games both football and basketball with Bob and Max in the car.
“I don’t remember anything he said, but it was a very memorable speech.” Julian Wright on a speech Michael Jordan gave to a group he was in
"But don’t ever get it twisted, it’s Rock Chalk forever." MG

I’m 55. Inevitable. Hurts.
I will always miss his post game interviews with Glen Mason and Larry Brown.
My favorite was the interview after NU home football game in freezing rain where the NU tailback drug Peda Samuel thirty yards for a touchdown. KU lost that game something like 60-0.
Mason talked about how much he loved Peda Samuel. Max just let him talk.
I was at that game. Listening to that post game interview almost made me cry.

Bummer. Max was a true gentleman and a Jayhawk legend. Nothing more needs to be said from me other than may he rest in peace.

Re: RIP Max
I have an autographed ticket from a game against Oklahoma that he signed. Before the game I walked right down to press row and asked for his autograph. If I remember correctly he was actually kinda surprised.
Much like everyone else on this board I grew up listening to Max and Bob in the car, on my Walkman or my clock radio for the night games when I was suppose to be sleeping.
'The King is dead. Long live the King.'

Re: RIP Max
I loved listening to Max. I was always hoping they'd bring him back to do a game or two for fun.
He'd mention the other team's "menacing black uniforms".
Back in the day with the score tied and 1 minute left right before going to commercial, Max would say something like, "Now is a great time for a refreshing bowl of Williams chili".
I'll miss you, Max.

Defense. Rebounds.
Re: RIP Max
I grew up, for the most part, in Los Angeles before moving to Lawrence for school. Max as KU's version of Vin Scully was a great bridge. The man, and his connection to every relevant piece of KU basketball history, will be missed.
Re: RIP Max
Someone check to see if the flag outside the Dirty Bird is at half staff.
Re: RIP Max
Great man. Was always confused as a kid with the competing broadcasts. Jerry Bailey was on the KANU and university broadcast; Max on WIBW. Always liked Max. He loved life and KU.
Re: RIP Max
An all-out legend! To me the voice of the 'hawks will always be Max and Bob! Had a great enthusiasm for sports and KU.

"All of sudden I thought I was teamed up with a midget."
Classic Bob and Max.

Re: RIP Max
That's the way games should be called. Not that phony stuff we hear now.
Re: RIP Max
How great it was to be a child/teenager in the 90's growing up listening to Bob and Max call the games on school nights, or on Saturdays when you couldn't be at home to watch the games. RIP
Re: RIP Max
memories of listening to them during tourney time when i was on family vacations and road trips as a kid
Re: RIP Max
Yup.
I remember my mom or dad picking me up from some after school activity and them having the game on in the car and then zooming back home to listen to it there.
I distinctly remember one of those games being against top 5 Cincy when a young Ryan Robertson had to fill in for an injured Jacque Vaughn.
