what do you think they say
other than poking fun at you for freaking out about Australia?

just that their covid measures have largely been more successful than ours

nobody even insinuated anything beyond that
I value my independence and freedoms, particularly in the sanctity of my own property. Watching a modern western country invade that in the name of "covid" is disconcerting.
i agree

but i also see a problem with people flaunting those liberties to the detriment of public health

laws exist because people are assholes and do what is self-serving rather than what is “right” or socially acceptable

imo, you shouldn't be upset at those supporting more restrictions...you should be upset at those whose behavior has gotten us to a place where those restrictions seem necessary to safeguard public health

You're just easily triggered on the point, it seems. Right from zero-->outrage.

Actually bro, the only point of tougher drunk driving laws is, if you hit something you might spill your drink.

It’s not thinking ofnsomebody else besides yourself, it’s thinking of yourself besides somebody else.

Take things away slowly...enact restrictions slowly and no one bats an eye. Pretty soon you've let some pretty big changes happen. Patriot Act part 2 but worse.

Ok yea.

But how are you so indifferent to loosing hundreds of thousands of lives otherwise?

We got the patriot act from, what, 3k dead on 9/11.

We’re averaging a 9/11 every 2 days

That's only if you believe the government's death stats.

Can you expand, though? It's operating on the assumption that any restriction or change is obviously unconstitutional.

Australia has had 68,041 Covid cases and 1,066 deaths. Ever. USA had 157,759 cases, and 1,700 deaths. Yesterday. I’m pissed that they have a system that’s working.
The ends don't justify the means.
actually, according to colleagues that actually live in Australia, you’d be wrong

one of my colleagues is Indian, and is grateful that he now lives in Oz...actually wishes he could get more of his extended family there

the folks i know from Australia don’t tend to bitch and moan about covid measures near as much as ‘muricans do
That’s great if they want to be sheep down there. Not gonna fly here.

I don't think there's anyone calling for total government authority.

I don't think there's anyone (serious) calling for no government authority.

contrast that with the worst pandemic in 100 years and people loosing their minds over a piece of cloth

If the patriot act was an extreme overreaction to a single extreme event, then now we’re seeing an extreme inaction to an ongoing extreme event

which is overwhelmingly the reason why the event is still ongoing

To preface, I 100% do not think you believe this or ever will. It's just that, this is the exact road that crazy people take to get to "covid restrictions are like the holocaust."

You would never go that far down, and there are controls in place to prevent it. So, I guess I would want some citation to where people are calling for complete and unconstitutional government control before getting mad about what Australia chooses to do.

Constitutional freedom is absolutely a concern, but on the other side of the required balancing act is the government interest of public health.
