Long story as short as possible.
My mother and I have to drive up north to go to my cousin's house for turkey dinner.
One of my best buds lives up north near where my cousin lives and his sister does too.
His mother is getting picked up in the city by his sister but she asked my mother if we could give her a ride back to the city tonight. My mother said of course we can/will.
Ok, here is the dilemma. My mother wasn't thinking straight.
My buddy and his sister (who happens to be an RN) aren't "anti-vaxxers" per se but neither of them are vaccinated. My guess is their kids aren't either.
Maybe this is being completely over-paranoid but I'm not thrilled my buddy's mother will be riding in a car with us for an hour or more.
She's a VERY strong (opinionated) Israeli who at times basically bullies my mother. Heck, she's a Trumper too. I KNOW if/when my mother would tell her my feelings, she'll go off on my mother.
So..... Do I just let it go and suck it up?
You just wear a mask and ask your Mom to wear a mask for the entire duration of the car ride. That is less of a hassle than enduring the argument and strain it puts on the relationship with your friend. If they take that as rude then they aren't very good friends and you won't miss their friendship.
Fantastic suggestion and...... the good news (for me) is/was......
She took an Uber back to the city because our dinner was so late - and we didn't leave until after 10:00pm.
The "stall until they give up on you" approach also works and avoids all confrontation if you can handle the late drive. Well played.

United States 68th in doses administered per 100 people. Pathetic

A guy I went to high school with just posted on Facebook something to the effect of “the experts told us it takes two weeks to flatten the curve, just watch, Omicron will have us locked down through 2022” (adopting the control-the-population conspiracy theory).

Sigh. You’re so close, dude.

The longer the virus circulates (or has the opportunity to circulate) the more opportunity it has to mutate. More mutations will ensure that some mutations are likely to be very deadly. Some are likely to be benign. Shut down the ability of the virus to circulate and we’re likely to get over this. This means vaccination and proper hygiene, masking and distancing. Don’t know why this is so hard for some people to understand

Not hard to see how he arrived at that conclusion. Fauci and Co. have been a clown show from Day One.

My wife's best friend is an English teacher in China. She has been back and forth between there and California three times during the pandemic due to deaths in her family.

Each time she returns to China, she is met at the airport by armed personnel who escort her to a government-run hotel. She is placed in a room with no knob on the inside of the door and spends the next two weeks locked in, with her only contact with the outside world being two daily phone calls from the government demanding a temperature reading and three meals per day shoved inside the doorway. After two weeks, she is let out and allowed to return to her home and her work.

If you want to live that way, it is certainly your business, but I say screw that. Not worth it.

Plus, if you really believe the numbers China is sharing with the rest of the world, you have bigger problems than COVID.

It’s all Trumps fault.

Not “all”, but “mostly”

About 300,000 people may still be alive if it wasn’t for the DFIC, and we may have kept the mutations to a minimum

The man should place purdue pharma in charge of vaccines. We will all be hooked in no time.

woohan will always make sure there is another variant that nbc can scare us with.

Of course the networks dramatize Covid but maximizing and/or minimizing it, the shit is real.
I'm not "scared" of Covid 24/7/365 but I sure as heck respect it and don't want to get it.
