I miss your good ol' fashioned presser dumps.

We always do stuff like this, but Tyon looks like a baby Wiggins and his game reminds of a baby Wiggins.
there’s a joke in there about alpha-puppy, but i got nothing

Late clock situations needs to also be Garrett or Och with TGF taking the role in circumstances.

All of this unless Thompson is a real deal OAD.

I’ll save everyone from the rest of the presser posts.

Late Night is online.

Tyon is on an uptick.

He's doomed.
Lol

Might as well get started sooner than later on the paperwork to transfer to Houston.

Twitter has made things easier albeit more posts. Dictating pressers and Hawk Talk live was real work. On the clock and on me to get right.

what’s baby Wiggins even mean?

Long and mega athletic but not super skilled and so laid back he’s almost aloof, but in a baby version?

When Wiggs was at TGF's stage (3 years out of HS), he averaged 20 PPG in the NBA.

I expect TGF's physical and skill development will be, generously, a baby version of that.

Also, Wiggins not skilled? Hmm.

It’s not that he’s not skilled.

It’s that he’s more a type to get by with freak natural talent, rather than a honed skill set.

He’s not an exceptional shooter, ball handler, creator, and def wasn’t in college.

In the nba he’s not an exceptional defender even though he could be. The only reason he looked so good defensively in college is cuz he’s so exceptionally quick compared to your average D1 baller. It was like he could stay in front of dudes without even trying.

At worst his scoring and space creation is above average even by NBA standards. His skillset overall is certainly not below average like you would say a set corner shooter a la PJ Tucker is.

His motor should absolutely be questioned--and that's how he has made it to this point. It's not a lack of tools in the box.

Idea he was just a dunker at KU is some crazy thing KU fans have invented for odd reasons. If we get a baby version of this from TGF, we're ecstatic and he's going league.

Gawd. What if Wiggins and Embiid had stayed a (healthy) second year:

So Mason
So Selden
So Wiggins
Jr Ellis
So Embiid

40-0 no questions

Instead, 2015 is pretty easily my least favorite Self team here. I can understand not being great, but then being boring to watch on top of it.

2019 at least had the excuse of suffering a huge injury.

Yes.
15 was also the worst for me.

Oubre didn't seem that engaged and didn't pan out well.
The Cliff eligibility issues.
Selden took a step back from his frosh year.
Ellis got busted up towards the end.
Jamari had a big role.
And we got taken to the woodshed by Wichita State.

Maybe it's recency bias, but 2019 was worse for me.

I think it had more to do with expectations, plus, we were ranked #1 preseason, AND going into that last game before Christmas. I remember watching us beat Tenn in Brooklyn and thinking this team might win it all. Then Dok went down, the wheels fell off, the streak ended....

At least in 2015 we got taken behind the woodshed by UK outta the gate and you could see what was coming.

Two duds for sure. And you didn't even mention our leading scorer getting kicked off the team.

also voluntarily sitting out a guy about an online class, and being in limbo about it until the Friday evening before the super bowl when the NCAA handed down one of the harshest penalties in the history of kangaroo court.

For me, 2019 stings more as a whole season, and having to watch a top preseason team literally fall apart before our very eyes.

But some of those individual games in 2015 hurt more. The UK champions classic, and at Temple right before Christmas, were the least competitive a Self-coached team has ever played.

2019 was a weird year. I never had much faith in a team led by Dedric and Vick tbh.

Revisionist history, Illy quote from Dec 25 2018, when we were ranked no. 1:

"This seems like a pretty terrible year overall in college basketball. Don't really feel like any of the teams are THAT good. We've got several glaring weaknesses, and I still feel like we might be the best team in the country."

Dedric is among the most unappreciated players in KU history.

Super talented college big, albeit in that old man game kinda way.

Dude was the difference between being a mediocre team that was in the running for the conference til the last couple games, and a godawful team that may not have even made the tourney.

Yeah, Dedric was NOT the problem.

Loosing Dok was the biggest problem
Vick flaking out made the problem worse
Grimes being a fraction of the player he was billed as contributed to it too.

If Grimes was Wiggins or Joshy quality, I think the streak woulda continued.

I bet we'd have pulled out the game @ ksu ( Grimes 6 points, 5 turnovers ) and @ Texas ( Grimes 3 points, 1-5 ) which would have left us at 14-4, Tech at 14-4 and ksu 13-5.
